Wow, this one kind of just flew by. I've got to hurry and finish part six, but I wanted to write the review while it was still fresh. (SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!)CHARACTERS - 'Mkay, there was a lot of really wonderful Jackson and Andrew moments. Like I'm totally in love with them as individuals and as a couple. They became real characters to me in this book. I think it was the closet/hurry up and get pants scene. It was very nicely done and I really started to understand these people and what makes them work outside of the bedroom. Inside the bedroom, they were awesome. (Inside the shower, they were even better. (happy smile)) I think Andrew might be one of my favorite characters. (Don't get it twisted. I don't love him as much as Isiah, but he's special.) Anyways, Andrew and Jackson make a very brave decision to leave the pack and Whitefall, and start a new life somewhere else. (Mostly because Isiah is coming to kill them any day now.)
Meanwhile, Forrest and Ben are having one heck of a morning. Actually, it pretty much sucks for them. Ben is totally turning into a werewolf. He's struggling to accept that and the actual existence of werewolves. Which I'm not sure that's all that surprising. Frankly, if someone told me they were a werewolf -- I'm not sure I'd freak out at all. I'd probably just...I don't know, keep eating my Cheerios. Like who cares that you're a werewolf? Why does that affect me and my Cheerio consumption in any way?
Anyways, back to the point -- Ben is struggling. Also, Forrest tells him that Isiah is going to kill him as soon as he wakes up. And I was like, "Okay, and why would you tell him that?!" The man is hanging on the edge of sanity and you just up and tell him that you're going to die by the hand of his evil brother. BUT you don't tell him why the evil brother is going to kill you. You just tell him you're going to die? I don't know. I guess, I struggled to connect with them in that scene, and I think it was because it read a little melodramatic to me. I understand their fear, but they're like...all...resigned to it. Like they can't possibly fight. THAT seems to be a carrying theme in these stories -- being resigned to your fate. Like for some reason, they all have a death wish. None of them seem to fight at the inevitable moment where natural survival instincts should kick in. They don't fight. They don't flee. They're all just waiting for whatever hand out they're given, and that irks me. Andrew and Isiah seem to be the only ones with any real...grit.
PLOT -- Ben actually turns into a werewolf in the wee-hours of the morning. Takes off into the snow. Forrest is running after him. And...
ISIAH AWAKENS FROM SLUMBER!!!! (MWA-HA-HA!!!) He gives chase to his brother and Forrest, and he's so PISSED. He's so, so angry. I'm soooo excited to see him raise cane. Once again, nice cliffhanger. I must devour P6 now.
CREATURES ! - We learned a little bit about werewolf healing abilities over P4 and P5. Now, that Ben has turned, I'm dying to find out more about these creatures.
SENSUALITY - Marvelous. (Word choice - Not nearly as bad as that P1 or P3.) This was actually incredibly sexy. Like wow. I kind of lost myself in that shower with Andrew and Jackson. Masterfully done.
MECHANICS/STRUCTURE -- The mechanics are all spot on. (That being said, you may want to have the entire series proofread again. There aren't many typos, but at least one or two in each part. And they're in vital moments. Not simple things like "a" and what not. We're talking use of the wrong word entirely like "fault" instead of "feeling.") The actual writing is brilliant. He's busting chops here. Sometimes, he says incredibly elegant things. Paints quite the vivid image. You can actually feel Ben's growing hysteria about the whole situation. You can feel all the emotions Jackson has for Andrew. Very well-written. That being said, I would've liked more information about the world outside of their relationships and pack. What do these people do for money?! That's always my first question with paranormal creatures. I mean, Andrew and Jackson are getting ready to start a new life -- with what money?! Are they going to pedal their butts on the corner? I mean, what are they going to eat? Do these people ever eat? I haven't seen anyone really eat. I know eating isn't interesting, but a mention of a cookie would help me believe this world is real and these characters are real. Just food for the noggin.
CONCLUSION -- Great edition to the series. Must keep reading!
